Prevent your children from facing unsafe diseases like measles

Measles is a viral disease which causes red rashes and high fever. It is very infectious and occurs mostly during the childhood. Measles precisely affects small children but it can be prevented by vaccines.

This established infection has lack of treatment, and sometimes may even cause death. There are a lot of ways of how measles spread. Transmission of saliva, handshakes or hugs, sneezes, coughs and touching of contaminated surfaces are sighted as the common ways.

The occurrence of this infectious disease cannot be predicted. The symptom appears a couple of weeks after the direct contact with the virus. About three days post the first sign rashes appear which is precisely called measles rash.

Symptoms

Babies and children are badly affected by the dangerous measles disease. In the first stage the child faces fever which may spike to 104 degrees or above. This is accompanied by coryza, cough and conjunctivitis (which cause redness of eyes). Don’t hesitate to call for your doctor immediately when you feel that your children have exposed themselves to measles.

Couple of days after such symptoms the child gets tiny white spots inside the mouth which is also known as the Koplik spot. This is an alarming symptom of the disease. The measles Rash which is seen few days after the appearance of koplik spot is usually seen at the forehead and face. These rashes spread till the feet via neck and arms. The victim may suffer from high fever (above 104 degrees) when these flat red colour spots start to appear.

How the disease gets transferred

Measles is an easily communicable disease. The throat mucus and the nose mucus is the host of the contagious virus responsible for measles.

  1. Coughing and sneezing without covering the mouth may lead to the spreading of the virus.
  2. Transmission of saliva through sharing of food and drinks or due to kissing maybe responsible for spreading the virus.

Note: the measles virus is spread only by humans and not by any other animal species.

Prevention measures

Measles cannot be predicted but can be prevented through vaccines. MMR vaccine is very beneficial for prevention of measles. This vaccine protects the body from mumps, rubella and measles. MMR is given to the children at the age of 12 months and above which is to prevent the vaccine from being less effective (which may be caused by the antibiotics transferred into the child from the mother).

Vitality health plus is a site which provides valuable services like spirometry, early vaccines, diabetes management and ultrasonography. You can avail their service and prevent diseases like measles or mumps.

MMR vaccine is very effective and safe. About 97% protection is provided for preventing measles through two doses of the vaccine. A person can be protected up to 93% through one doze of the vaccine. The point which needs to be noted is that, if the victim is not taken to the doctor after the few symptoms then 90% of the people around will catch the disease.
